“rockSTARS IN SPACE” PAIRS HOSPITALIZED KIDS WITH MUSICIANS TO WRITE SONGS THAT DEBUT IN SPACE

rockSTARS in Space debuted songs aboard the International Space Station in May 2021 with earthly release on September 27, 2021

SEATTLE—September 21, 2021—During the height of the pandemic in 2020 a select group of hospitalized kids from around the world connected virtually with Seattle-based nonprofit Melodic Caring Project (MCP) team members to write and record an original song and create art inspired by the cosmos. The result is the five-song “rockSTARS in Space EP” featuring the single “Other Side”, which debuted aboard the International Space Station in May 2021 for an audience of astronauts, thanks to the efforts of former astronaut Nicole Stott and her Space for Art Foundation.

The project’s single, “Other Side” and video will be released here on Earth on September 27, 2021 through Soundly/The Orchard. It was written and performed by rockSTARS Ambee, Paige, Luca, Tessa, Noelle, Faith, TJ, Kaylee and Jonathan, with background vocals of MCP team members Levi Ware and Tanesha Ross.

Over a 10-month period during their treatments, children and teens from Sydney Children’s Hospital in Australia, George Mark Children’s House in California, Texas Children’s, and Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital in Sweden developed and recorded songs using Zoom and the internet for correspondence. The program garnered five songs and a very special video that highlights each of the songs.

“For over a decade Melodic Caring Project has been delivering personalized livestreams from famous musicians directly to the hospital rooms of young patients we call rockSTARS. During the COVID-19 pandemic we decided our rockSTARS deserved an escape… as far away as we could possibly dream, so we sent their voices to space!” said Levi Ware, co-founder and CEO of MCP. “The connection and joy this project brought to these talented kids while in isolation was an honor to witness. It gave them something to focus on and look forward to while going through an incredibly difficult time in their lives,” he continued.
