An “out of this world” partnership between Melodic Caring Project + Space for Art Foundation presenting a cooperative International Space Album featuring original music and art created by MCP rockSTARS from hospitals around the world including: Sydney Children’s Hospital, George Mark Children’s House, Texas Children’s and Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital in Sweden.

The partnership between the Melodic Caring Project and The Space For Art Foundation is one of the good things to come out of a difficult year. Due to COVID-19 and the cancelation of all live performances it was necessary for the Melodic Caring Project to adapt its programming from live concerts to personal, virtual connections with musicians and influencers in their own homes. This necessity inspired a new series called MCPconnects. One of the guests featured on the new series was astronaut Nicole Stott. During her interview Nicole talked about the incredible work being done by her nonprofit (Space For Art Foundation) which allows kids from around the world to create artwork that is quilted together into spacesuits by their partner ILC Dover Astrospace (the company that makes NASA’s real spacesuits and has been doing so since Apollo). Some of these art spacesuits have even made their way to the International Space Station (ISS) for the astronauts to wear and the kids to see in space!. Inspired by her incredible work, the Melodic Caring Project team developed the idea of a therapeutic music program allowing hospitalized kids from around the World to express themselves through original songs that will be recorded and hopefully sent to the ISS for the astronauts to listen to. They discussed the concept with Nicole and a beautiful partnership was born.

LYRICS

Verse 1:
There’s no easy way around it
When the world feels like it’s
slipping off it’s axis
Everything’s spinning slowly,
slowly, slowly
The day seems like its never
endin’
Felt so unreal, can’t keep
pretendin’
It’ll all be ok, ok, ok, ok

Pre-chorus:
Gotta laugh through the pain

Chorus:
Sucked in, pushed out, set up for
a knock down,
All these beautiful tragedies, but
we’re comin’ out the other side
Rise above the atmosphere, take a
Deep breath, and drop your fears
Dance among the stars my dear
We’re comin’ out the other side

Verse 2:
We gotta escape from this
disorder
Out of this world and cross the
border,
To a place where it all comes
together (in the end my friend?)
Get connected and start to feel
better
Nothin but joy and sunny weather
And what was broken can be
made whole again

Pre-chorus:
And we can laugh through the
pain

Chorus:
Sucked in, pushed out, setup for a
knock down,
All these beautiful tragedies, but
we’re comin’ out the other side
Rise above the atmosphere, take a
Deep breath, and drop your fears
Dance among the stars my dear
We’re comin’ out the other side

Bridge:
We’ll caravan up to the Moon
Hop a flight to Mars
The Universe is ours
Sing a little Neptune
When I’m scared and confused
I find strength in you

Pre-chorus:
Gonna laugh through the pain

Chorus:
Sucked in, pushed out, set up for
a knock down,
All these beautiful tragedies, and
we’re comin’ out the other side
Rise above the atmosphere, take a
Deep breath, and drop your fears
Dance among the stars my dear

LYRICS

We say hi from our little spot on the pale blue dot
We say hello hello hello to you

CHORUS 1
Here at George Mark Children’s House
We’re a family
We’re in this together, you and me
We say hi from our little spot on the pale blue dot
Hello hello hello to you

Verse
Here on this earth
We remember you always
Looking into the stars
We see your face

Verse
There are dreams of meeting you again
You touched so many lives
Your memory lives on in our hearts and in the sky

Verse
That star it shines
bright amongst the others
Its the smallest light
but completes the constellation

Verse
That star will shine its little light
And forever be
an inspiration to the moon
to me and you

CHORUS 2
Here on this earth
We’re a family
We’re in this together, you and me
We’re in this together, yes you see
We’re in this together, you and me
We’re in this together, yes indeed, you and me

Verse 1:
We need everyone on this planet
Not just parents who care about us
Not just doctors who are always around
Not just nurses who help us a lot
We believe that happy days are coming
When we wake up without a port
We’ll be healthy like the other children
No pain, no cry, no pokes

Chorus:
God help all the kids on the planet
Help all the children please
God help all the kids on the planet
We need them to be cancer free

Verse 2:
We believe miracles can happen
And Mama will never cry
We believe one day in a planet
When cancer will be gone for all times
Kids will be happy everywhere
Go to school and play outside
We won’t need a word for cancer
It will be gone from our lives

Chorus:
God help all the kids on the planet
Help all the children please
God help all the kids on the planet
We need them to be cancer free

LYRICS

Verse 1:
Stars are shinin’ in the sky
Shining down from super high on this guy
There ain’t a cloud between us and the sun
I’m Captain Luca
I’m in charge and I’m awesome
Space hyenas in their rocket fleet
Coming up beneath us below our feet
Black marble my sidekick dragon
He flies through space
Shoots acid at ‘em
Oh yeah
The hyenas ship is melted away
They float frozen in space
Hey hey

Chorus:
How did you save us, Captain Luca?
Shouts the crew
Cause I’m awesome
Time to roll the music cue
‘Cause I’m Captain and I always win
‘Specially if playing Skyrim
I choose my own adventure
And you can betcha
I beat the boss
And make the beats to rock ya
Yeah yeah

Verse 2:
My brother and my sister bought Groove Pad by mistake. Then Bonnie and Clyde ate steak
And didn’t think dad would think it was great
Cause it cost lots of money
And dad had to pick up the tab
But is not all bad
So don’t be sad
Cause now I make beats that are rad in my space pad
So here come the space vampires
They always want to suck your blood
There aint a lot up in space
So we’ve got protection in place
It’s an invisibility shield like a force field
So even if they do see us they can’t get in
So that’s unreal
So I can just float and sleep
Listen to my occasional beep
I lie and wonder about aliens and their special powers
Telekinesis, X-ray vision
Are they smarter than us
With Senses like ours?
Can they draw mythical stuff like me?
Do they pee?
And what do they pretend to be?
Maybe me
Cause I’m Captain Luca and I’m awesome
Awesome!

Featuring the Song
“OTHER SIDE”

A select group of kids joined the program and spent a 10-month period during their treatments to develop and record their songs using Zoom and the internet as their correspondence. The program ended up garnering 5 songs and a very special video that highlighted each of the songs. On May 2020, through the efforts of Nicole and Space for Art, those songs made their way and debuted aboard the International Space Station. One of these songs called “Other Side” was written and performed by rockSTARS Ambee, Paige, Tessa, Noelle, Faith, TJ, Kaylee, Jonathan, with background vocals of MCP team members Levi Ware & Tanesha Ross.
