No Limits, Just Epiphanies
Written by rockSTAR Faith Morfitt
“I had a dream so big and loud I jumped so high I touched a cloud.”
With giddy excitement, tears of joy, and a comforting sense of belonging, I hung up the phone after chatting with Levi Ware, the founder of the Melodic Caring Project, or MCP. Tonight was the night: the long awaited American Authors concert. American Authors would be joined on stage by MAGIC GIANT, whose music I’d heard for the very first time only a day before (coincidence? I think not). This was the concert I’d been looking forward to for so long, hoping to escape the unpleasant side effects of a new treatment begun the day before. And yet, a seemingly simple conversation took first place as the highlight of my day.
“I howled at the moon with friends and then the sun came crashing in.”
Anticipation pulsing through my tired veins, I texted two people who’ve been intertwined in my MCP tale. Kaelyn, the beautiful soul a few years older than myself who connected me with the organization I now call my family, and Kira, a brand new friend whose introduction to MCP I had the fulfilling pleasure of orchestrating. Our roles reversed that night. We encouraged each other to join the livestream, chatting back and forth about the concert and the people behind it.
“I’m never gonna look back, woah! Never gonna give it up, no. Please don’t wake me now…”
Hours passed SLOWLY. Patience? Not my forte. Who could blame me? This night was shaping up to be a night of unforgettable musical energy and, just as thrilling, community.
“This is gonna be the best day of my life, my li-i-i-ife!”
American Authors and MAGIC GIANT proved an unforgettable duo, and Melodic Caring Project proved a safe haven for the precious, young, suffering warriors I fight alongside. Throughout the concert, MCP’s live chat box flooded with encouragement from rockSTAR to rockSTAR, playful jokes, and descriptions of our unique ways of ‘dancing’ to the tunes.
“But all the possibilities, no limits just epiphanies.”
My pain fizzled in insignificance as songs I’d never heard rippled between nostalgic lyrics I’d listened to a thousand times. On the phone just a few hours earlier, Levi promised an electric energy, and to nobody’s surprise, he was spot on. As the two bands merged, then individualized, then joined forces again during the night, I realized this may truly be a once in a lifetime experience.
“I hear it calling outside my window, I feel it in my soul.”
Pondering the excitement of the evening as I folded my laptop, a smile stretched across my tired heart. No doubt, the artists on display created an experience unmatched by your average concert. Despite the catchy songs, dance parties prompted by their beats, and undeniable energy, the meaningful moments of the night stemmed from my love for this family. The pictures captured to share with MCP, the conversations with the people behind the organization, the thrill of experiencing the concert alongside my Melodic Caring Project family. Those moments are priceless. Nothing compares to belonging. My heart filled to the brim.
“The stars were burning so bright, the sun was out til midnight, I say we lose control.”
If you catch me listening to American Authors or MAGIC GIANT and grinning uncontrollably over the next few weeks, know that I’m also remembering moments even the most brilliant melodies can’t capture. A phone call here, a blurry, adrenaline-charged selfie there, a whispered prayer of gratitude in between. Because of the Melodic Caring Project, “Everything is looking up, everybody up now! This is gonna be, this is gonna be, this is gonna be the best day of my life…
…my li-i-i-i-ife.”
